Anthony "Flip" Jones

Dillingham Police Department

February 12, 1992

Officer Jones was shot and killed while assisting other officers at the scene of a
“shots fired” call. He had been with the Dillingham Police Department for two years
.

 

 

Karl William Reishus

Juneau Police Department

May 4, 1992

Officer Reishus was fatally injured as he tried to save two firefighters during a fire rescue training
incident.  He was 29 years old and had been with the Juneau Police Department for two years
.
 

 

Robert Lee Bittick

Alaska State Troopers

October 11, 1994

Sergeant Bittick died in an aircraft accident north of Haines, Alaska, in the Yukon Territory.
He had been with the troopers for 12 years and was 55 years old at the time of his death
.
 

 

 

C. E. "Swack" Swackhammer

Department of Public Safety

October 11, 1994

“Swack” died in the same aircraft accident.  He was appointed Deputy Commissioner in 1992 and was 51 years old at the time of his death.

 

Dan Richard Seely

Anchorage Police Department

October 26, 1996

Officer Seely was shot and killed while serving a warrant.  Officer Seely was 40
years old and a ten-year veteran of the Anchorage Police Department
.

 

Bruce Alan Heck

Alaska State Troopers

January 10, 1997
Trooper Heck was killed while struggling with a suspect who had stolen a car. 
He was a 21-year police veteran of the Alaska State Troopers
.

 

 

John Kevin Lamm

Fairbanks Police Department

January 1, 1998
Officer Lamm was gunned down by a suicidal subject.  Officer Lamm had been with the
 Fairbanks Police Department for three years and was 26 years old at the time of his death

Fairbanks Police Department has set up an online memorial site.

 

 

David Calvin Churchill

Fish and Wildlife Protection

September 16, 1998

Sergeant Churchill died of a heart attack while checking a hunting camp on the Alaska
Peninsula. He was 51 at the time of his death and had been with the Alaska State Troopers for 12 years
.

 

James Arland Rowland, Jr.

Palmer Police Department

May 15, 1999
Officer Rowland was fatally shot while struggling with a man in the Carr’s parking lot in Palmer. 
Officer James Rowland was 30 years old, a three-year veteran of the Palmer Police Department
 and the first officer killed in the line of duty in the history of the department
